SUMELA AND THE MOUNTAINS OF CAMLIHEMSIN
Day 1: Trabzon-Altindere
Arrival at the airport of Trabzon where your guide will welcome you.
Start off visiting the city of Trabzon, which is the largest city in the region. The old quarter is built of wooden houses surrounded by fortifications, which gives it an air of a medieval town. Visit the house of Atatürk and the bazaar. Lunch at a traditional restaurant to taste the famous kofte of Akcaabat.
Departure for the National Park Altindere where you’ll spend the night.
Day 2 : Altindere - Uzungol
Today, you’ll visit the famous monastery of Sumela. This monastery dates from the 14th century and was dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Built during the Byzantine era by Greek Orthodox, it is perched 270 metres above the valley. You can admire the ruins of magnificent frescoes, and surrounding nature is of exceptional beauty. Departure for Uzungol where you’ll spend the night.
Day 3: Camlihemsin - Trabzon
A day visiting Çamlıhemşin, Valley of Storms, the Zir Castle, and Ayder, passing waterfalls, rivers, waterfalls always with the shadow of the mountains of Kaçkar, popular with climbers. This site is highly protected and is a national park. Before returning to Trabzon, we will stop also Anzer, or you can sample the famous locally produced honey. This place also attracts many botanists.
Transfer to Trabzon airport for your return flight to Istanbul.
